The terms “telehealth” and “telemedicine” may sometimes be used interchangeably, but telehealth has evolved to encompass an expansive range of services. “Telemedicine” refers specifically to remote medical practice via telecommunications. “Telehealth” is a more general, over-arching term that includes many forms of activity and service provided through the healthcare system via telecommunications technology, beyond remote clinical care.
There are a number of technologies available for purposes of telehealth, including appointments utilizing real-time video communication platforms, mHealth (mobile health), digital applications and photography, and remote patient monitoring (RPM).
Through these and other technologies, our patients to track health measurements, set medication and appointment reminders, and share information with their care providers, as well as maintain and manage appointments or communicate securely by video conference or text message. Wearables and other devices collect and transfer vital signs (blood pressures, cardiac stats, oxygen levels, and respiratory rate).
